Adult League 3-on-3 Rules
Official Game Rules
- Each game will consist of 15 min's running time.
- First team to score 13 pts or the team leading after 15 min's is determined the winner.
- A team must win by a (2) point margin, or the first team to score 16 pts regardless of point differential is declared the winner.
- Field Goals count as (1) point.
- Shots made behind the 3-point "arc" will count as (2) points.
- Two players from each team must start the game. Players cannot foul out.
- Each team is granted (2) full time outs per game.
- "Bonus" free throws = 5th team foul. (1) F/T is awarded (1-point if successful).
After the bonus F/T attempt, possession is granted to opposite team.
- "Double Bonus" = 7th team foul. Possession will remain with the shooting team regardless if the F/T attempt is made or missed.
- Technical and Intentional Fouls will result in (1) F/T +possession.
- Flagrant Fouls (Automatic ejection!) = (2) F/T's +possession.
Overtime
After regulation time has expired, the overtime format is as follows:
- First team to lead by (2) points wins the game
- First team to reach 16 pts (regardless of point differential)
Team Records
- All Teams will play a best of 3 series each week.
- First team to win 2 out of 3 games will be determined the winner of the weekly series.
- The 3rd game is played regardless if either team wins game #1 & #2.
- If either team "Sweeps" all 3 games, they will earn bonus "Sweep Points" to be used as a tiebreaker for league standings.
Team Standings
Examples of team standings:
| Team |
Won |
Lost |
Sweeps |
| Lakers
| 7 |
1 |
2 |
| Spurs
| 7 |
1 |
1 |
| Kings
| 7 |
1 |
0 |
Using the example above, Lakers are determined the league champion because they earned more "Sweeps" than the Spurs and the Kings. This format awards teams for sweeping the weekly series. It also creates a competitive incentive to play the mandatory 3rd game each week.
Team Standings (Definitions)
- A WIN is earned by a team who defeats their opponent in a weekly "best of 3 series" (including forfeits).
- A SWEEP is considered bonus points earned by a team who defeats their opponent in all 3 games (including forfeits). Sweeps are recorded in the league standings and serve as a tiebreaker. In some cases sweeps can be more valuable than wins.
If games 1 & 2 are declared forfeits, the opposing team will earn a "Sweep" of all 3 games. (See "Forfeits" below)
- STANDINGS are determined in the following order:
- Wins
- Losses
- Sweeps
- Head to Head
- If two or more teams are tied in categories 1, 2, or 3, Head to Head Competition will be used to determine the higher ranked team.
Game Time
Game time is game time! A team must be signed in, and on the floor at the scheduled start time. The clock will run until each team is dressed and ready to play. The team arriving late or unable to start with (2) players will be penalized 1-point per minute (until 13 points are totaled) Time-Outs are not granted until the ball has been out in play. T/O's are not granted until play begins.
Forfeits
If game #1 is declared a forfeit, the clock will be reset and begin running for game #2.
If game # 1 & 2 are declared forfeits, the opposing team earns a "Sweep" of all 3 games, and the 3rd game will not be played.
