(Revised March 2006): We play a combination of CIF/High School Rules with a NBA "Flair". We do NOT play a full compliment of NBA/Pro-Am Rules because officials or players are not familiar with Pro Rules in their entirety.
In all situations, we reserve the right to determine the outcome of the contest!
Regulation Play: Four 10-minute quarters (running clock). Clock stops on T/O's & final 2-minutes of the 4th -quarter if the point differential is 8-points or less. The clock does not stop after made baskets at any time during the game.
Halftime: 3 Minutes
Timeouts: Two (2) full time outs per half. T/O's do not carry over.
Ball Advancement: The ball may be advanced to half court after any timeout & after each quarter.
Overtime: 3-minute running clock, "stop clock" the final min. if point differential is 5 or less. (1) "Full" T/O per team. Regulation T/O's do not carry over. Overtime bonus/penalty = 3rd team foul.
Final Overtime: No clock. No time outs. All fouls = 2-shots. First team to score 5-points wins. The "5" count is strictly enforced.
Quarter Possession: Team who wins the opening tip shall receive the ball at the start of the 4th quarter with the opposing team receiving the ball the start of the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
Possession Arrow: No possession arrow enforced. Players involved in tie up will "jump" for possession at the nearest f/t line or at half court.
Technical Fouls: All technical fouls are "1-shot" fouls. Possession will resume at the point of interruption. Flagrant or intentional fouls will result in a "2-shot" foul situation (plus possession). Any player committing a foul of this nature must sit out of the game for 3-minutes and/or subject to ejection.
Team & Personal Fouls: (6) personal fouls. Bonus is on the 5th team-foul of each quarter. All bonus shots will be "2-shot" fouls. Team fouls are reset at the beginning of each quarter. Player control fouls are not bonus eligible.
Free Throws: A maximum of 5 players are allowed in the F/T lanes on free throw shots. The offense is allowed (2) and the defense is allowed (3) occupied lane spaces. A player may "STEP" on the ENTIRE bottom block. Players in the "lane" may enter "on the release" ALL other players (including the shooter) must wait until the ball hits the rim.
Rosters: Team Rosters are unlimited, however a maximum of 10 awards will be issued for championship teams. All rosters are due by the designated registration deadline, and all roster changes must be submitted prior to the halfway point of the season. Exceptions are accepted at our discretion and should be approved thru our office prior to participation.
Level of Play: We reserve the right to move teams to another league based on skill level. This includes plaoffs.
Protests: Protests shall be submitted (in writing) to Ace 5on5 no later than COB the following business day. The protest must state the rule misinterpretation. Protests are not considered or honored regarding officials judgment calls. All protests must be stated at the point of contention and noted in the scorebook. Ace 5on5 reserves the final decision on all league protests.
Profanity: ZERO Tolerance! Players will receive a "T" for use/abuse of profanity. Officials are instructed to penalize all infractions, including "accidents". Captains are responsible for their players.
Sportsmanship: The Team Captain/Manager must conduct all grievances on and off the court. Any unusual tactic, profanity, or derogatory remarks by players may result in an ejection from the game and the gymnasium. The Team Captain is subject to serve a one-game suspension if his/her player(s) is ejected for any reason. Ace 5on5 reserves the right to make the final decision in all cases.
Verbal & Physical abuse of the officials, scorekeepers, players (either team), or spectators is cause for the assessment of a technical foul and/or ejection. Physical abuse of officials, staff, players (either team), or spectators may result in a lifetime ban from participation in our league, and legal prosecution for assault may be charged.
Alcohol or drug use before or during games is strictly prohibited!
Ejections: Any player ejected for any reason will automatically serve a one-game suspension effective the following game. This includes double headers and playoff games. Any player receiving two ejections within one season is subject to automatic removal from the league, and possibly a lifetime participation ban. In addition to a player suspension, The Team Captain will also serve a one-game suspension.
Ejection Option: The Captain has the right to opt out of his/her suspension, and allow the suspended player to serve a TWO-GAME SUSPENSION. Our office must approve the ejection option within 48 hours of the suspension. If the Team Captain does not excercise the ejection option (within 48 hours), both players will be suspended for the next contest (including double headers & playoffs). The league scorekeeper is a representative of Ace 5on5 and is authorized to make decisions in the best interest of the league, which may include the assistance of the Officials.
Game & Forfeit Time: Game time is game time! A team must be signed in and on the floor at the scheduled game time. The clock will run until each team is dressed and ready for tip-off. The team arriving late or unable to start with four players will be penalized 1-point per minute. A grace period of 2 quarters will be granted at the start of the scheduled game time. Time outs are not granted before tip-off.
Jerseys: Each team will wear jerseys {same dominant color} with a number on the either side. Duplicate numbers OR blank jerseys are NOT authorized. Tape, markers, or pens are not to be used in lieu of a blank number, or to alter an existing #. Each player not wearing a proper uniform will receive a "T", and be charged $5.00 fee payable before entering. Games 1 & 2 of each season are the only grace period. If both teams have the same color jerseys, the Scorekeeper or Official may ask a team to "flip" their jerseys over. That team will not be penalized in a special circumstance.
Jewelry: Not authorized! No earrings, no tape over earrings, no studs, no wrist accessories, no bandanas. No exceptions!
Awards: Awards are given to the first place team in each division (Maximum of 10 awards).
Playoffs: (All Leagues except City of Orange) Teams are seeded by best record during weeks/games #1 - #7. Game #8 is considered the playoff and guaranteed game. The top two teams meet for the championship. #3 vs. #4 play for 3rd place; #5 vs. #6 for play 5th place, etc.
Playoffs: (All Leagues except City of Orange) Teams are seeded by best record during weeks/games #1 - #9. Game #10 is considered the playoff and guaranteed game. The top two teams meet for the championship. #3 vs. #4 play for 3rd place; #5 vs. #6 for play 5th place, etc.
Playoff Seeding/Tiebreaker: A "tiebreaker" system will be followed if 2 or more teams finish with identical win or loss records: Tiebreakers are used primarily to determine championship games. Other placement games may have flexibility in determining the opponent.
Tiebreaker #1 - Best win/loss record
Tiebreaker #2 - Head to head competition
Tiebreaker #3 - Point spread of each contest
Tiebreaker #4 - *Head to head & point spread against next highest rated team
*In odd cases when two teams did not meet in the regular season, or all scenarios above result in a tie, matchups and results between the next highest rated team(s) will be considered.
If 2 teams are tied and a loss was due to a forfeit, the team who forfeited cannot advance on a tiebreaker system listed above. (We do not reward teams that forfeit). (New Rule as of March 06)
Playoff Eligibility: (Revised April 2006) A player must play a minimum of 3 games (total) during the regular season to become eligible to participate in the playoffs. He/she must participate in at least one game at or before the halfway point of the season. Game #4 (8-week league) Game #5 (10-week league)
Player Eligibility:
Yes | Any player can join a team on/before the halfway point of the season (Eligible).
Yes | A player may play on a team beyond the halfway point to avoid a forfeit (Ineligible).
Yes | A captain can permit the game to "count" with an ineligible opponent to avoid a forfeit.
Yes | Protests should be declared before tip-off if team is aware of ineligibility.
Yes | A player can be ruled ineligible if he/she checks into a game for a single play.
Yes | A players eligible status is verified by his signature on our game waiver.
No | Ineligible players may not participate in championship games.
No | A captain may not force a forfeit due to ineligibility. Play the game, protest afterwards!
No | A player cannot exceed the leagues height limit (Ineligible).
No | A player may not participate if he/she has been notified of an ejection/suspension.
No | A player may not participate if under the age of 18 without a special "under-age" waiver.
