Tips on using The Arbiter (effectively):

Tip #1 What should you do first?

Once you are signed in the system, you may want to do the following: Mark yourself as Ready to be Assigned by clicking the check box located on the bottom left corner your start page. If you don't have this box checked, your assignor may not be able assign you games. Checking this box prompts an icon to appear on your start page that allows you to view your game schedule.

Tip #2 From the Start Page, you should:

Click on: Account/Information. From the "Update My Information" screen, you should update your current Phone #'s, Address, and other important statistics.

To add or edit your phone #:
1. In the "UPDATE MY INFORMATION" screen, click on the icon
2. Click the button to add a new phone number. Select a phone type and then enter the phone number.

Checking the box marked PUBLIC allows each unique phone # to be viewed by partners & schools. Un-checking the PUBLIC box allows only the Assignor to view a particular phone #.

When you have added or updated your current phone #'s, click the green checkmark. You may also re-arrange the order of the appearance of your phone #'s by using the Up/Down buttons (far right).

To add or edit your picture:
Click on Picture - upload a picture form your computers hard drive - The Arbiter website should properly format your picture.

Tip #3 (Blocks) From the Start Page:

"BLOCKS" allow you to update important information about your preferences, availability, and other conflicts. You may block options such as Dates, Times, Locations, Partners, Sites, and Travel Limits.

Can I relay my availability from The Arbiter?

NO. You may block your unavailable dates via The Arbiter, but your general availability should be communicated via the Referee Availability Form.

Are available games posted on The Arbiter?

This depends on if your Assignor activates the SELF-ASSIGN feature which allows officials to be offered designated games needing a slot(s) to be filled. If officials are qualified and granted permission to work selected games, SELF ASSIGN allows you (official) to view and accept those games without the verbal approval of the Assignor.

Is there a cost to use The Arbiter?

Your affiliation dues cover the cost of placing you into The Arbiter database for the period of November 1st, thru October 31st of each calendar year.

Tips on how to solve sign-in problems.

The inability for officials or contacts to sign into the system will generally be caused by 4 possible errors. If you receive an error message (displayed in red) as you attempt to sign-in, try using the solutions below for help:
Sign-in Errors
1. Invalid email address.
2. Invalid password.
3. You don't have permission to sign-in at this time.
4. Your session has timed out.

Solutions
1. The email address the user is entering to sign-in is different from the email address you have entered for them in the system. Ask the user to verify the email address with you and make sure you have entered it the same way. If the email address is incorrect in the system you can either correct the email address yourself or ask the user to sign-in using the incorrect address and then have them correct the address once they've logged on successfully.

2. The password the user has entered does not match the password required. When the user gets this message a link will be displayed for them to click if they've forgotten their password. Clicking this link will give the user the opportunity to have the password emailed to them. Passwords are case-sensitive, so be attentive to the upper/lower case letters. Because the initial password is always the user's last name, those officials with a Jr., Sr., III, etc. will have to enter the entire last name text as their password. IE- ‘peterson jr.'

3. The user is entering a valid email address and password, but the assignor has not given the user permission to sign-in. The Assignor must "Set Permissions" to allow the user to sign in.

4. The user's browser settings aren't allowing them to sign-in because they can't accept cookies. The user can correct this by changing their settings in Internet Explorer. This is done by clicking on the TOOLS pull-down and then on INTERNET OPTIONS. There are two methods for allowing thearbiter.net's cookies:
a) Click on the SECURITY tab and then on the TRUSTED SITES icon. Click the SITES button and then type www.thearbiter.net into the blank and then click ADD.
b) Click on the PRIVACY tab and then on the ADVANCED button. Check the box for OVERRIDE AUTOMATIC COOKIE HANDLING and then on ALWAYS ALLOW SESSION COOKIES. Method one is recommended because it limits the browser to only accept cookies from thearbiter.net, but either method is effective.
