Become an Ace 5on5 Referee ~ FAQ's

How do I become an Ace 5on5 Referee?

It is our policy/preference that we see an Official work on the floor before we consider using them to work our assigned events. We actively recruit certified officials to work as the number of events we assign is growing each year. If you are interested in becoming an Ace 5on5 Official, please fill out a Referee Application so that we could get to know you.


What attributes does Ace look for in prospective referees?

We are interested in your display of standard officiating skills such as; Appearance, Attitude, Demeanor, Game Management, Solid Judgment, Mechanics, and how well you work with partners.


Are new referees with no experience considered?

Officials with no experience are initially referred to our PRT Program. We prefer to use officials with some experience; however a final determination will be made after seeing you work on the floor.


Is there an interview process?

Yes. New Referees are asked to work (2) games as an interview/audition. You will not be paid for these games.


Are there any costs to join?

Yes, Annual Affiliation Dues are $20.00 which covers you from November 1st thru October 31st of each calendar year, regardless of what month you join.

In addition to affiliation dues, all officials are required to purchase and wear an Ace 5on5 referee jersey. The cost of a jersey is $30. Ace 5on5 shorts are additional (and optional)

To maintain our solid reputation and professionalism, we do have a few "House Rules".


Tell me about your referee programs.

We offer specialized referee programs to train and develop aspiring officials. We also have a unique "Barter Program" that provides financial assistance to cover the following programs:
1. PRT - Personal Referee Training Program
2. Referee Barter Program
3. Future Stars High School Camp
4. Rising Stars College Camp


How would you like to be contacted about official's availability?

It is appreciated when officials utilize the Referee Availability Form to communicate their open dates. Unless we have initially contacted you, phone calls/voice mails are considered low priority.


How do officials receive their schedules?

Schedules are posted on-line via The Arbiter, which is our secondary website http://www.thearbiter.net/. Also see our FAQ's about The Arbiter.


Where can officials find directions to all gym locations?

Maps, directions, and phone numbers to 1300+ schools, parks, and gyms are available in Southern California Gym Directory.


Is Ace 5on5 gear available for purchase on-line?

Yes! Shirts, shorts, jackets, book bags, and many other items can be purchased on-line. Please visit our shopping cart for prices and availability?
